Maker: Chris Robinson
Specialism: Powder Coat Applicator
Tools of the trade: Electrostatic spray gun, spray booth and batch oven
Likes: Middlesbrough FC, family time and Spanish cuisine
Dislikes: Bad weather, but that is about it!
Having serviced Smith for over 11 years, Chris is responsible for our powder coat process, applying the perfect finish with his steady-hand and keen eye for detail. An important part of the team, he appreciates the efforts of his colleagues who fabricate the signage which comes before him, therefore he ensures the final touch is made with no imperfections whatsoever.
His talents don’t just lie with the use of an electrostatic gun; Chris has experience in every other aspect of the word ‘fabrication’. However, he has really made this a role of his own.
Initially, he was responsible for applying the ‘traditional’ finish of paint to our products. With this experience he thoroughly understands the importance of 'prepping'. Prior to the free-flowing application of dry powder, all impurities (oil, grease, dust and oxidises) are removed from the extrusion. Now, Chris can apply powder with the deftest of touches, slowly coating layer after layer, until it is ready to be cured in a 6m by 4m batch oven.
“I feel a great deal of responsibility to ensure that our products are finished to the highest of standards. Having the use of a powder coat facility certainly helps us archive our expectations. The finish is more durable, smoother, and turnaround times are reduced significantly”.
