Maker: Sam Kipling
Tools of the trade: Bollhoff machine, DA sander, welder and channel saw
Likes: Manchester Utd, running, boxing and fish and chips
Dislikes: Rainy weather, coffee and poor craftsmanship
A member of the Smith team for the best part of a year now, Sam is our first apprentice in over 40 years. At just 19 years old he is plying his trade as a Fabricator, closely shadowing those around him, developing his expertise and refining his craftsman’s touch. A valuable member of the team, he is earmarked as one for the future.
A talent which is telling, his specialism doesn’t just lie in one particular field of fabrication, but many!
Keen to learn, Sam contributes to all elements of the signmaking process, no matter the scale, big or small. Whether it is tack-welding a commercial tray sign together, riveting channel extrusion to CE Marked traffic signage, or grinding sheet metal in preparation for use; he understands each process carries its own importance when creating the perfect sign.
“Working alongside the Smith lads has certainly helped me develop my skills quicker than expected. They are extremely knowledgeable, and that rubs off on me. Working to such a high standard makes you appreciate every aspect of signmaking”.
